Who honors the spaces left by the dead? How and why do people and cultures disappear?
These questions animate Site: Yizkor, an ongoing project documenting manifestations of loss through performance, visual art, and participatory workshops. The texts presented in this book have been generously contributed to the project by participants of several workshops and were written in response to the following prompt: describe a vanished place of personal importance. The text is juxtaposed with monotype prints composed of architectural renderings and decorative details from demolished buildings, maps of vanished places, and images sourced from extant Yizkor books. Through the layering of maps and memory, Site: Yizkor constructs new, fantastical spaces that offer possibilities for healing and remembrance.
