Site is the beginning of a video and performance project that excavates the mythology of the artist’s family history and traces the impact of trauma and loss over three generations. While this work is about personal experience, it also presents a universal story of displacement and its effects on future generations.
The original and deliberately non-linear text is interspersed with sections from T.S. Eliot's epic poem, The Waste Land, which is said to express Eliot’s disillusionment with the post-WWI generation and influx of Jewish immigrants fleeing Eastern Europe. Elia Braca Rose’s story, which bookends the total narrative, is also a story of loss. Her death coincided with Ciarrocchi leaving Westbeth, a building and community she had lived in for nearly 30 years.
